Seymour Stein, 마음이 허하다

1. Seymour Stein

아침 출근길에 마음이 너무 허해서 위로해주는 노래를 찾다가, 버릇처럼 Belle & Sebastian의 노래를 꺼내들었다. 꽤 오래전, 독특한 빨간앨범을 통해 그들을 알고서부터 하얀앨범, 빨강앨범, 녹색앨범은 내 마음의 치료제가 되었다.

빨간앨범만큼 내사랑을 받았던 녹색앨범, 성문영의 속지가 인상깊었었다.

그 중에서도 유독 Seymour Stein이 무척이나 듣고 싶어졌다. 평소와는 다르게 노래가사에 대한 궁금증도 생기고, 클릭 몇번으로 위키피디아에서 다음과 같은 설명을 찾아냈다. 왜 High Fidelity에서 이 노래를 사용했는지 이제야 좀 더 이해가 간다.

Seymour Stein is an entrepreneur in the music industry whose career spans from the 1950s onwards. He is the president of Sire Records -- the label under which he signed pioneer artists such as The Ramones, Madonna, The Smiths and Talking Heads -- and vice president of Warner Bros. Records. 영화를 다시 보고싶다. 멋지게 Let's Get It On을 불러 제끼던 베리의 목소리도 듣고싶고, 딕이 조심스레 틀어놓던 벨앤세바스찬의 Seymour Stein을 다시 듣고도 싶다. 좋아하는 노래와 아티스트 얘기로 퉁탕거리던 작은 레코드점. 천상 루저(Loser) 그 자체인 그들이 왜 그렇게 행복해보였는지 난 아직도 잘 모르겠다.

출근길에 가슴 한구석 허전한 이유가 그때문인지도 모르겠다.
