영화 "Death Sentence"의 삽입곡 Alright

케빈 베이컨이 주연한 영화 Death Sentence에는 Pilot Speed라는 그룹의 Alright이라는 노래가 수록되어있다. 그룹 이름도 생소했고, 그 전에 들어본 적이 없는 노래였지만, 영화적 상황과 무척이나 어울리는 첫 소절의 가사, 그리고 울려펴지는 보컬의 목소리로 인해 듣자마자 이 노래가 좋아졌다.  영화 Closer에서 들렸던 Damien Rice의 곡처럼.

(재미는 조금 줄었을지 모르지만) 영화적 상황이 조금만 더 설득력있었더라면 이 노래가 더 깊이있게 들리지 않았을까하는 아쉬움이 생긴다. 영화에서 난무하는 폭력에 대한 강조가 아니라 흄이 그렇게 복수해야했던 상황, 그 비극적 상황에 관심을 더 두었다면 좋았을 듯 싶다.

흄의 가족이 갱들의 침입으로 총격을 받고 쓰려져 누워있는 장면과 격렬한 총격이 지난후 걸어 자신의 집으로 향해가는 영화의 엔딩에서 이 노래는 흘러나왔다. "Tonight I lack the strength to even move" 움직일 힘도 없다는 절절한 가사가 깔리는 영화의 한 씬. 복수는 복수를 부르고 끝을 향해 돌진해가는 영화의 피로감, 귀를 자극하는 총소리, 비명소리가 이 노래로 인해 정화되는 느낌이었다.

영화가 끝나고 영화보다 더 인상적이었던 노래를 찾아보았다. Pilot Speed라는 밴드 이름을 확인하고 위키를 찾아보니(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot_Speed) 1999년에 결성된 캐나다 밴드였다. 2001년에 첫 싱글을 발매하고 현재까지 3장의 앨범을 낸 그룹. 영화에 삽입된 곡 Alright은 이들의 2006년 앨범 'Into the west'에 실린 곡이다. 국내에서 발매된 앨범은 없는 것 같으니, 그 동안은 열심히 유튜브를 뒤적거리며 갈증을 풀 예정. 관심이 있으면 그들의 공식 홈페이지 (http://www.pilotspeed.net/)를 방문해도 좋을 듯 싶다.
